1861 DATED CSA WM CONFEDERATE 1879 SCOTT RESTIKE NGC MS63 CAC - SUPER PQ & ORIGINAL!
After acquiring the Confederate half dollar die in 1879, coin dealer J.W. Scott developed a plan to produce restrikes using existing 1861 half dollars. However, as a precaution against possible die breakage, he first created 500 white metal tokens, such as the one that is offered here. He sold these pieces for 50 cents each to those who subscribed to his restrike program.
